Curriculum analysis ppt

The curriculum is one of the most effective tools for bridging the gap between education and development. However, there is little to no normative guidance diet chart in bengali pdf what constitutes a well-balanced responsive curriculum at different levels of education. Education systems and by implication curricula are under relentless pressure to demonstrate relevance and responsiveness chat ui template national, regional, and global development challenges.

Research evidence on the nature of learning is impressively accumulating and at a fast pace. However, this impressively accumulating wealth of knowledge is not being effectively applied to improve practice in the facilitation of learning. While indispensable to quality improvement efforts, curriculum and learning depend on the effective and efficient functioning of other elements of an education system. A systemic approach is therefore required to analyse critical impediments and implement responsive interventions.

There is a need to deepen the understanding of curriculum and to reconceptualise it as a tool to enhance and democratize learning opportunities within a lifelong learning perspective. In order to effectively carry out our core mandate and progressively become the UNESCO Centre of Excellence in Curriculum and related matters, we aim at constantly strengthening our delivery capacity.

Inclusive dialogue is a precondition for consensus on the value of the curriculum to global education and development efforts. The IBE leads in generating opportunities for intellectual discussion aimed at recognising the still understated potential of curriculum to democratize learning and to create lifelong opportunities for all.

Substantial curriculum investments must yield regenerative and sustainable results. This means over time countries must be able to strengthen their own curriculum development capabilities.

Acknowledging this, the IBE provides enabling support through knowledge-sharing, skills transfer, policy and technical advice, and professional development courses, among other strategies. Education stakeholders have come to rely on mounting research evidence on teaching and learning that, ironically, is challenging to obtain and often written in scientific language not easily understood in common terms.

At IBE we identify, select, and interpret research findings for policy-making and practical application in curriculum and learning. The IBE Documentation Centre collects and makes available documentation and information pertaining to the content of education, curriculum development and teaching methods.

Resources collected at the Documentation Centre are part of the IBE knowledge base on curricula and education systems. Mission: To provide support and promote innovative solutions to the challenges faced by ministries of education and governments in the complex task of improving equity, quality, relevance and effectiveness of curriculum, teaching, learning and assessment processes and outcomes.

Completely describe and evaluate curricular compliance with CAPTE accreditation standards for curricular content. Flexibly generate data reports that would be required for ongoing curricular evaluation and preparation of accreditation self-study report.

The CAT system enabled us to complete a more comprehensive and accurate curriculum analysis than other methods I have used for previous annual and CAPTE curricular assessments. It allowed us to link each and every course objective to a specific program outcome and CAPTE criterion. Further, it allowed us to accurately analyze the aggregate breadth and depth of our course objectives across the curriculum.

The time that was saved minimized the amount of time faculty members were pulled away from teaching and scholarly pursuits. The inclusion of other data makes the Database useful and efficient for the creation of administrative documents such as annual reports and annual performance reviews.

In dictionaries, curriculum is often defined as the courses offered by a school, but it is rarely used in such a general sense in schools. Depending on how broadly educators define or employ the term, curriculum typically refers to the knowledge and skills students are expected to learn, which includes the learning standards or learning objectives they are expected to meet; the units and lessons that teachers teach; the assignments and projects given to students; the books, materials, videos, presentations, and readings used in a course; and the tests, assessmentsand other methods used to evaluate student learning.

In many cases, teachers develop their own curricula, often refining and improving them over years, although it is also common for teachers to adapt lessons and syllabi created by other teachers, use curriculum templates and guides to structure their lessons and courses, or purchase prepackaged curricula from individuals and companies.

Layered Curriculum Presentation

In some cases, schools purchase comprehensive, multigrade curriculum packages—often in a particular subject area, such as mathematics—that teachers are required to use or follow. Generally speaking, curriculum takes many different forms in schools—too many to comprehensively catalog here.

It is important to note that while curriculum encompasses a wide variety of potential educational and instructional practices, educators often have a very precise, technical meaning in mind when they use the term. To noneducators, some curriculum materials may seem simple or straightforward such as a list of required reading, for examplebut they may reflect a deep and sophisticated understanding of an academic discipline and of the most effective strategies for learning acquisition and classroom management.

For a related discussion, see hidden curriculum. Since curriculum is one of the foundational elements of effective schooling and teaching, it is often the object of reforms, most of which are broadly intended to either mandate or encourage greater curricular standardization and consistency across states, schools, grade levels, subject areas, and courses.

The following are a few representative examples of the ways in which curriculum is targeted for improvement or used to leverage school improvement and increase teacher effectiveness:. Reform Since curriculum is one of the foundational elements of effective schooling and teaching, it is often the object of reforms, most of which are broadly intended to either mandate or encourage greater curricular standardization and consistency across states, schools, grade levels, subject areas, and courses.

While the technical alignment of curriculum with standards does not necessarily mean that teachers are teaching in accordance with the standards—or, more to the point, that students are actually achieving those learning expectations—learning standards remain a mechanism by which policy makers and school leaders attempt to improve curriculum and teaching quality. The Common Core State Standards Initiativefor example, is a national effort to influence curriculum design and teaching quality in schools through the adoption of new learning standards by states.

Assessment requirements: Another reform strategy that indirectly influences curriculum is assessment, since the methods used to measure student learning compel teachers to teach the content and skills that will eventually be evaluated. While standardized tests are one way in which assessment is used to leverage curriculum reform, schools may also use rubrics and many other strategies to improve teaching quality through the modification of assessment strategies, requirements, and expectations.

For example, teachers may review their mathematics program to ensure that what students are actually being taught in every Algebra I course offered in the school not only reflects expected learning standards for that subject area and grade level, but that it also prepares students for Algebra II and geometry.

When the curriculum is not aligned, students might be taught significantly different content in each Algebra I course, for example, and students taking different Algebra I courses may complete the courses unevenly prepared for Algebra II. For a more detailed discussion, see coherent curriculum. Curriculum philosophy: The design and goals of any curriculum reflect the educational philosophy—whether intentionally or unintentionally—of the educators who developed it.

Consequently, curriculum reform may occur through the adoption of a different philosophy or model of teaching by a school or educator. Schools that follow the Expeditionary Learning model, for example, embrace a variety of approaches to teaching generally known as project-based learningwhich encompasses related strategies such as community-based learning and authentic learning. Curriculum packages: In some cases, schools decide to purchase or adopt a curriculum package that has been developed by an outside organization.

One well-known and commonly used option for American public schools is International Baccalaureatewhich offers curriculum programs for elementary schools, middle schools, and high schools. Districts may purchase all three programs or an individual school may purchase only one, and the programs may be offered to all or only some of the students in a school. When schools adopt a curriculum package, teachers often receive specialized training to ensure that the curriculum is effectively implemented and taught.

In many cases, curriculum packages are purchased or adopted because they are perceived to be of a higher quality or more prestigious than the existing curriculum options offered by a school or independently developed by teachers. Curriculum resources: The resources that schools provide to teachers can also have a significant affect on curriculum.

For example, if a district or school purchases a certain set of textbooks and requires teachers to use them, those textbooks will inevitably influence what gets taught and how teachers teach. Technology purchases are another example of resources that have the potential to influence curriculum.Pedagogy is closely related to curriculum theory, but where pedagogy describes how people teach and learn, curriculum describes how people decide what to teach and learn.

Moodle is capable of supporting a variety of different curriculum theories and pedagogies. The mission of Moodle is "Empowering educators to improve our world. But this is a very difficult question to answer-- in fact, there is not just one single answer. The answer can differ depending on time and place, and most people work with more than one of these definitions.

They are all valid. In fact, they may be MOST important. There are many ways to categorize curriculum theories, but this structure serves as a useful reference:. For more information, see Curriculum Theory: Conflicting visions and enduring concerns by Michael Schiro.

In this structure, an educational program or teacher can be aligned with any of these four curriculum theories, and most are aligned with more than one at any given time. The alignment can change over time, and by context. These are just terms used to reference the educational priorities currently in effect. The important thing to note is that each curriculum theory aligns with a specific pedagogy, and this has implications for choosing teaching strategies, assessments, program evaluation criteria, learning analytics modelsetc.

Moodle provides a wide variety of tools to support these different curriculum theories. Every community needs to be able to identify and encourage its own scholars. Moodle supports the growth of local scholars in many ways, especially by providing a flexible Assignment module that can accept a wide variety of files, incorporating Advanced grading methods like Rubrics and Marking Guides to support consistency in grading.

Files can be annotated online by the teacher, and comments can be exchanged between teacher and student. Moodle also supports external academic honesty and reference checking tools like Crot and TurnItInoften requested by academic institutions to help teach good scholarship practices. Moodle provides tools requiring students to agree to academic codes of conduct when first logging in or when submitting particular assessments. Moodle provides a detailed Quiz statistics report that provides psychometric analysis of individual quiz questions.

This helps to ensure that quizzes are assessing students accurately and fairly. Learning analytics for this perspective might focus on features of the program, rather than the individual students, although advising students of where they rank in the program may also be appropriate. Note that there can be consequences to this notification-- students who are not ranked highest may become discouraged. We also want to make sure that all students or as many as possible achieve essential competencies.
